Mosquitoes have settled almost in all parts of the world. There are about 300 species, in Bulgaria there are 39 types of malarial mosquitoes and non- malarial. Mosquitoes are the insects with the greatest medical importance, as they cause many diseases - more than 50 types viruses and infections. Mosquitoes are heterotypic organisms - they live in two environments / water and air / only adult insect / Imago / live in the air, the other stages of development / egg, larva, pupa / run in the aquatic environment. Females lay 80-300 eggs in places with high humidity or surface water. The optimum temperature for development is 20-30 ˚ C. Under optimum conditions the first to hatch are male mosquitoes\ they look for food, but always remain close to the breeding place. Males feed on plant juices, only females suck blood . Males fly, copulate with females in the air and die. After copulation females fly off to forage for eggs, and after a feast of blood they can lay their eggs and the cycle closes. The maximum lifespan of the female mosquito is 3-6 months.
- Malarial mosquitoes: Today, malaria is a disease characterized primarily in countries and regions of subtropical and tropical regions of the earth. In other free zones it can be carried away by people traveling in areas with high risk of malaria. Infection occurs through the bite of a malarial mosquito. Once infected by blood-sucking individuals the malaria parasite actively begins to multiply / this is the cause of malaria /. In each subsequent bite through secretions into the wound in a single bite, parasites pass into the next host and are settled in his liver. Not all mosquitoes can carry the causative agent of malaria - this is only a single species of the genus Anopheles. Diagnosed early, malaria is curable. For people traveling frequently in countries with high risk of malaria medication is recommended as a preventive measure.
Treatment:
Measures to combat mosquitoes are quite varied and depend on natural conditions and production and household characteristics of the locality. Preventive measures can be carried out - temporary drainage of the basins with standing water, wavy patterns on the windows, removal of leaks, use of repellents.
- Insecticide treatment - insecticide treatments can be applied to all stages of development of mosquitoes, only in the pupa stage they are ineffective because in the early stage they do not eat, but are very mobile and makes them very resistant to the treatment. Early in the spring the preparation is applied before vegetation. Mandatory treatment with insecticides must be done to stop the proliferation of adult mosquitoes that have already taken off. Spray with an insecticide with residual action - hot and cold spray can be used. Treatments can be performed all summer to control the size of the population. Late in the autumn all the adults die, larvae overwinter on the surface of ponds.
